Qatar Airways supports Cape Town-bound PSL team

Qatar Airways, one of the world’s first-class airline companies, has extended its support to the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) delegation seeing action in the 2014 Western Province Aquatics (WPA) Swimming Gala scheduled on February 8 to 9 at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Aquatics Center in Cape Town, South Africa.

The PSL, the national sports association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines and the longest running swimming grassroots program in the country, has selected Denjylie Cordero, Mc–Tracy John Alindogan, Jifrey Azor, Emanuel Joshua Lorbes, Portia Kate Doragos, John Carlo Doragos, Jasmine Mojdeh and Kyla Soguilon to represent the country in the tournament.

“We are delighted and thankful for the support extended by the Qatar Airways. Our swimmers are excited to compete against their counterparts in the African region. They are all aiming to win medals and hopefully surpass the national junior records in their respective events,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

For the record, Qatar Airways has been voted as the Airline of the Year in 2011 and 2012 by the Skytrax industry audit. It also got a 5-Star rating by the same group following its world-class services to the travelers in 120 destinations worldwide.

The PSL chief also thanked former senator and Diliman Preparatory School President Nikki Coseteng as well as Maggie Magdangal of Aqua–sphere for sponsoring the track suit of the delegation, Light N Up Chief Exectuive Officer David Almendral and Behrouz Persian Cuisine.

Buddy Cunanan, Consul of Georgia in the Philippines, and Steven Chai-Mowitz, Honorary Consul of the Philippines in Cape Town, are now working with the Filipino community in Cape Town to welcome the Philippine delegation in South Africa.

Consul Cunanan arranged the PSL-WPA tie up. It was formalized in December during the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the PSL and WPA, represented by Sandra Reynolds, executive member for marketing and public relations. UWC Aquatics manager Glen Bentley and Honorary Consul Chaimowitz were also present during the MOU signing.

“This is a good opportunity for our young swimmers to test their skills and be at par with some of the finest swimmers in Africa. It’s one of our goals to hone these kids as they are future of Philippine swimming,” ended Papa.
